Infertility is a disease of the male or female reproductive system defined by the failure to achieve pregnancy after 12 months or more of regular unprotected intercourse. Factors such as weight, diet, smoking, medical conditions, other substance abuse, environmental pollutants, medications, and family medical history, infections can all affect conception in couples. Infertility can arise from either partner. In the male reproductive system, infertility is usually caused by the ejection of semen, absence or low levels of sperm, or problems with abnormal shape (morphology) and movement (motility) of sperm while in women it occurs when she is not able to produce eggs regularly or because her fallopian tubes are damaged or blocked and sperm count (means abnormalities of the ovaries, uterus, fallopian tubes and endocrine system). The number of eggs does not reach her. Infertility can be primary or secondary. Primary infertility occurs when a pregnancy is never achieved by a person, and secondary infertility occurs when at least one prior pregnancy has been achieved. Fertility care includes the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infertility. Equitable and equitable access to reproductive care remains a challenge in most countries; especially in low- and middle-income countries. Reproductive care is rarely a priority in national universal health coverage benefit packages. This article presents the idea of infertility from Ayurveda, discusses the most convenient ayurvedic concepts and practices that are followed in case of infertility in women, in lieu of modern ideas. According to Ayurveda Infertility primarily refers to the biological inability of a woman of reproductive age to contribute to conception & also the state of a woman who is unable to carry the pregnancy to full term.
